Vivek Shraya, recognized as a unique voice in Canada’s LGBTQ+ community, is an artist whose body of work crosses the boundaries of music, literature, visual art, theatre, and film who has established herself as a unique voice in. Her best-selling book I’m Afraid of Men was heralded by Vanity Fair as “cultural rocket fuel,” and her album with Queer Songbook Orchestra, Part‑Time Woman, was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize. She is one half of the music duo Too Attached and the founder of the publishing imprint VS. Books.
Vivek, born February 15, 1981 in Edmonton, Alberta, is a Canadian musician, writer, and visual artist. She currently lives in Calgary, Alberta, where she is an assistant professor in the creative writing program at University of Calgary.
A six-time Lambda Literary Award finalist, Vivek was a Pride Toronto Grand Marshal, was featured on The Globe and Mail’s Best Dressed list and has received honors from The Writers’ Trust of Canada and The Publishing Triangle. She is a director on the board of the Tegan and Sara Foundation and an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Calgary.
Vivek’s latest music I’m A Fag 4 U was released on February 14, 2020 and is available on itunes. Most recognized for her writing, Vivek’s next novel The Subtweet will be available April 7 from ECW Press.
